Will calming solutions help my hyper dog and are they safe with meds?

The calming chews should be fine to give but you may not notice much effect from them. Typically a vet will send home pain medication (and a sedative if needed) after a surgical procedure. If you are worried that Charlie is showing signs of discomfort (panting, whining, restlessness) then you should call your vet and request some additional pain medication. If he seems fine at home just be sure to restrict his activity as best you can for a few days to allow the surgery site to heal. I hope this helps. As of yet, we have very little research on CBD oil in veterinary patients, so we cannot make any recommendations one way or the other about this product - we do not know what an appropriate dose might be, and if there are any potential health concerns or drug interactions in dogs. Hi There, it can be frustrating to try and train a hyperactive young dog - but the more time you put in, the better behaved she'll become. I do not recommend using essential oils on dogs - their sense of smell is infinitely more acute than ours (and some oils Lavender included can be toxic if she were to lick herself after you've applied it). Instead, look to buy ADAPTIL (or COMFORTZONE) products instead which are safe pheromone based products - available online from retailers like Petco, PetSmart and Amazon, your vet may also stock them. They are patented to help reduce unwanted behaviors which may be driven by anxiety. I also suggest you look at participating in obedience, canine good citizen scheme and other activities like flyball, agility or sheep herding. These will keep Lucy engaged and hopefully reduce her hyperactivity at home. You should also make sure she gets at least one long walk or run a day, more if possible.

In this case, a calming tab will not ease ChikiLou. I see that she isn't spayed and she is likely acting aggressively towards other female dogs due to hormones. She will be letting them know they are in her territory and may be trying to complete for attention from male dogs. Because it's hormonally related, a calming tab will likely not help at all. The best way to help reduce this behavior is to have her spayed.

If I were you I would try Adaptil first. It is a natural pheromone treatment. Give it a couple months of consistent use to see if it helps before resorting to other stronger treatments like medications/drugs. A pheromone collar, such as the Adaptil collar, may help decrease anxiety. Gradual desensitization is also strongly recommended. Calming chews, such as Composure chews (by VetriScience) may help but they are not "magic pills". You will need to modify her behavior. This may require the assistance of a certified trainer.
