My puppy's tail tip was amputated. Is it healthy to purchase?

Some arthritis may develop at some point in time if it does not have some already. It may or may not be a cause of significant pain in the future. There is no way to tell that. Many animals have broken tails that never cause them any problems after they heal. Some animals eventually need to have the tail amputated (depending on the location of the break) if there are problems later in life. If you are overly concerned you should hav her examined by a vet prior to purchasing her and have x-rays taken of the tail.

Often tip of the tail injuries actually don't heal and we end up amputating the injured bit. If it's going to heal, it will take 4-8 weeks. Definitely stay in close conversation with your vet about what you're seeing at home and take Oscar in for a recheck as recommended (probably in every 1-2 weeks until it's healed or it's decided that it's not healing and needs surgery). Hello. I would need to see your pet to determine the extent of the problem, but you certainly do not describe a healthy tail. If the tissues are badly compromised & dying, you should have the tail amputated above the diseased/damaged area to prevent spread of bacteria into the rest of Luke's circulation. The skin will probably not grow back and the tail will probably go through a process of necrosis, which may put his life in danger. i strongly recommend taking him to the vet, the tip of the tail will probably need to be amputated.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Tato. Necrosis of the tail is a very serious condition that typically occurs after tail surgery or serious injury. He may have a scab on the end of his tail from repeating damaging from wagging it when he gets excited. Pit bulls can also be prone to an overgrowth of mites known as Demodex. This is usually bald or scabby lesions. Ringworm can also make a crusty lesion. While it is likely not a serious problem for him, it is best for him to see his veterinarian to know for sure. He should certainly be seen though if the lesion grows, bleeds or starts to bother him. I hope this information helps!

It depends on how long the blood supply was cut off. Keep an eye on it, if a sore develops where the band was keep it clean and use a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. If you decide to have the tail docked please take her to your veterinarian to have it surgically removed under anesthesia. Ouch! Without seeing the x-rays, it's difficult to provide a terribly accurate opinion regarding Luna's tail. In general, if there is a small fracture near the tip of the tail, these can heal quite well without any lasting problems. However, if there is a fracture closer to the tail base, these can cause more problems when healing (i.e. holding the tail up while using the litter box) and be more painful. Tail amputations do not cause any significant stress beyond the stress caused by any surgical procedure. Most cats recover uneventfully after 10-14 days with the help of some pain medication. To my knowledge, there is not emotional distress caused by tail amputations because cats do not experience the social pressures that people will feel. In most cases of tail fractures, I lean towards amputation. I hope this helps you to confirm your decision!
