Is it too stressful to bring a new puppy home on vaccination day?

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 5 weeks is a bit young to leave her mother but if she is fully weaned it should be ok. We usually do not start vaccines until they are 7 weeks of age. Some breeders will give them a parvo vaccine at under 7 weeks. You should be fine until she gets her first vaccine but people with sick dogs or unvaccinated dogs shouldn't handle her and she needs to be kept away from all dogs. I hope this helps and good luck!

I recommend having Chi Chi and the remaining puppies spayed and neutered to help prevent more litters and inbred puppies. Unneutered males are prone to aggression, humping, roaming, marking and other behaviours, and neutering can also reduce the risk of testicular cancer and certain types of prostate disease. Spaying stops the heat cycle, eliminates the risk and cost of unwanted breeding, and early spaying can eliminate the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer, as well as reduce the risk of potentially fatal uterine infections and breast cancer.

I typically try to encourage breeders to adopt out around 7-8 weeks of age. It comes down to socialization and being around the mom as long as possible. Socialization has been known to begin between 3-6 weeks and if you take the puppy away from the littermates too early, then this benefit of socialization could be harmed. No, I recommend waiting at least until 7-8 weeks after puppy has been with mom. These weeks are important for puppy to bond with the mom and to develop behaviorally and socially. Important socialization occurs during these weeks and it is important to not take puppy from mom too early.

Great question! It is safe to take Winston home when he is at least eight weeks of age. By then, he will be fully weaned from his mother. Some breeders keep the puppy up to 12 weeks of age, which is fine as well :-)

In my opinion it is not a very good idea. The main reason is that your puppy has not been vaccinated yet and at the age of 8-10weeks puppies become susceptible for many infections (including parvovirus). Viruses, such as parvovirus, can be passed on puppies even without direct contact with infected dogs. The virus can be transmitted for example via schoes dirty in soil, cloths, could be picked up in carparks etc.
