What Blue Buffalo food is best for my 9-week Golden Retriever puppy?

You can ask 3 different vets and probably get 3 different answers when it comes to food recommendation; however, I personally am not a fan of Blue Buffalo because of their high protein content and also their unwillingness to list their complete ingredient list to AAFCO. I trust a couple of brands including Royal Canin (by far my favorite), Hills Science Diet, and California Natural (Innova). I would recommend either of those and it has to be puppy large breed until Timmy turns 1 year of age, at which point he can be switched to the adult food. Purina puppy is ok and is a little lower on the list of high quality brands to choose from. Iams is a step above the Purina in my personal opinion.

Yes, Royal Canin is one of the best diets available and it’s what I feed my own dogs and cats. Get the large breed puppy or the golden retriever puppy diet and feed this until he is 1 year old. Make sure to transition the diet over 1 week to avoid causing GI upset. I hope this helps.

No, I do not recommend it. It's a grain free diet, and vets are seeing a rise in heart disease in dogs who are fed grain free and boutique diets. Dogs are dying from this, and the FDA is now researching it. Grains are fine for dogs, grain free is a fad. I recommend brands such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I personally recommend Eukanuba. I do not like Blue Buffalo at all, I've seen a number of dogs have health issues on it such as gastroenteritis, plus there is no quality control over their food. They do not own their own factories and send their recipes to other factories to make it. Finally, they do not have a veterinary nutritionist on staff to make sure the food is nutritionally balanced like Eukanuba has. I definitely would buy her Eukanuba. Oh my goodness, too much cuteness!!! Any of the premium dog foods are good. The pet food industry has come a very long way in recent years. I am a personal fan of Purina foods. Which ever food you choose I would recommend that it be one specifically formulated for large breed dogs. As far as how much to feed, the recommendations on the bag are generally a good guideline. You just want to make sure that you are weighing Toby every couple of weeks and adjusting the amount of food accordingly. The goal is to ensure that he is receiving his nutrients, but also to make sure he is not an overweight puppy (or adult). His hips and joints will thank you later.
