Is Blue Buffalo dog food safe for my dog given past recalls?

There have been a lot of issues with Blue Buffalo but most of what you read online is from upset pet owners who’s pets got sick or died and they want to blame a product or food. Sadly they do this with out evidence to back it up. If Patches is doing well it’s up to you if you want to change it. Blue Buffalo isn’t a brand I recommend. I recommend Hill’s, Royal Canin and Purina because they have veterinary nutritionists on staff. Have a good day!

Neither. I do not recommend grain free dog foods because of the recent increase in dogs developing dilated cardiomyopathy who are on grain free diets. The FDA is currently investigating that link. I would also never recommend Blue Buffalo, it's a terrible food. I recommend feeding Linda Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. I hope this helps.

Generally yes, the bad food will be removed off the shelves and replaced with food that is safe. If you are not sure if your food is recalled, call the pet store you purchased it from or call the company. If a company has many issues with recalls, this can indicate poor quality control. Dogs and cats with diabetes should eat food with as little carbohydrates as possible. The easiest is to feed a commercial diet food for diabetic dogs, such as from Hill's or Royal Canin. I am not fon dof Blue Buffalo as I see a lot of dogs who have health problems while on Blue Buffalo brand.

You need to keep in mind that every pet is different and what works for your dog may not work for someone else's. I recommend a food that is certified by AAFCO to start as this means that is meets minimum standards. Next, the puppy need to like it and eat it willingly. There needs to be no vomiting and diarrhea on the diet nor an excessive amount of bowel movements. A dog should defecate 2-3 times per day. More than this is abnormal. Finally, her haircut should be glossy and healthy. If she is meeting all of these requirements on her diet, then there is no reason to change. My only warning is to avoid grain free diets as there is recent research linking them to heart disease. I hope this information helps!

I actually really do prefer science diet over Blue. I personally as well as several of my colleagues have seen some negative side effects to the blue buffalo foods. I have seen that it causes an increase in bladder crystals which make dogs more prone to bladder stones. Science diet has been around for years and years and have the appropriate research to back them up. They also have a light diet if you are looking for Lucky to lose some weight. I would make sure you mix the old food with the new food for about 10 days to help prevent an upset stomach. I hope this helps!

Frankly, I'm not a fan of Blue Buffalo since they have been cited for lying about the ingredients in their foods more than once. My personal favorite brands of dog food are Science Diet and Royal Canin. Both are excellent quality, made in their own facilities so there's less chance of contamination with other foods and all are extensively tested for effectiveness and palatability. If he hasn't been to the vet in a while, I recommend getting him checked to make sure there isn't some underlying medical condition causing his upset stomach.
