Virbac also makes a great range of CET Enzymatic toothpastes that help to "dissolve" plaque and prevent plaque build up. https://us.virbac.com/product/dental/cet-enzymatic-toothpaste-for-dogs-and-cats

These are widely available on the internet and though veterinarians and pet stores.

That somewhat depends on how Brody's teeth are. If he already has a large amount of plaque and tartar on his teeth, he may need a dental cleaning with his veterinarian. If you are looking to prevent plaque and tartar buildup on teeth that are already clean, brushing his teeth is the best option. You can't use human toothpaste, but any canine toothpaste in a flavor he likes is a great option. There are also water additives and dental gels that help prevent plaque and tartar buildup, from companies like Virbac and Ceva. If you have further questions or concerns, I would recommend reaching out to your regular veterinarian for what options they carry and what might work for him. Good luck!

I personally like the CET brand of dental products for dogs. It's what I use on my dogs, and it's excellent. They have toothpaste, toothbrushes, and dental treats. I would get that brand for your dog. You will also need to schedule a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing for your dog with a vet. Best of luck.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! Here is a list of the products I typically recommend: 1. CET oral rinse 2. CET enzymatic toothpaste 3. Oravet chews 4. Plaque off 5. CET chlorhexidine chews Not all of these will work but I have had some mixed success using all of these. My favorite is the Oravet chew as it employs an additive known as Delmopinol to prevent tartar formation. Oravet chews are only available in veterinary clinics so you may have a hard time finding this one online. All of the other products you can find online. I hope this helps! What are the best products to remove plaque from my dog's teeth?

Hi and thanks for posting on PetCoach! There are a wide variety of products out there that help decrease plaque on teeth to some degree. Some products are better than others. However, the best product out there is actually a toothbrush! Brushing your dog's teeth daily (or as frequently as you can) will help decrease plaque build up on the teeth and help prevent dental disease. Be sure to use a dog friendly toothpaste you can get from your local pet shop. I have linked one I recommend below. Sometimes, however, the plaque hardens and becomes calcified on the tooth. When this happens, it is very hard to get rid of with brushing or commercial products like dental sprays or water additives, etc. A dental scaling done by Hiccup's veterinarian is the only way to get the dental calculus off the tooth. The sprays and commercial products along with daily or frequent brushing will help substantially at reducing plaque build up in the future.

What home remedies are safe and effective for brushing my dog's teeth?

The most important part of a home dental care program is actually just brushing the teeth at all and does not seem to make a difference which toothpaste is used unless you use a proven toothpaste. There are actually only 2 toothpastes on the market that have been proven to help improve dental health in dogs. I am attaching a list of approved dental products below. http://www.vohc.org/VOHCAcceptedProductsTable_Dogs.pdf So, I would recommend purchasing PetSmile or Essential Healthy Mouth if you are going to use a toothpaste. I have found that homemade toothpastes are not very good tasting (so it makes it harder for you to brush the teeth) and would recommend using a good brush without any toothpaste instead of making a homemade toothpaste.
