Hello. It is usually recommended to start a pregnant bitch on a higher calorie food approximately 2-3 weeks before the birth of the litter. This is best accomplished by switching her regular kibble to a puppy formula & continuing until the puppies are weaned. Good question! I recommend either Royal Canin Puppy food or Hill's Science Diet puppy food. Both of these companies do a lot of research and quality control and they utilize the expertise of veterinary nutritionists in formulating their diets. These four brands have veterinary nutritionists on staff to make sure the food is formulated for a dog's nutritional needs. Poor Kasper! Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
