Is a Golden Retriever or another breed best for my bored Husky?

Both can be great dogs. With either breed be sure you are committed to brushing daily and possibly having groomed monthly (or doing it yourself). Sammies were bred to be more of a northern breed and have a double coat. If you are in a very warm climate a GRT may be a better choice. In my experience samoyeds tend to be a bit more standoffish than golden retrievers. They aren't quite as goofy and approachable but they are majestic dogs. A lot depends on your lifestyle. Both are active dogs but samoyeds are a herding breed and may become bored easily if not given a job. Whichever you choose be sure to thoroughly socialize the pup and work on training from the moment you get it. Those breeds are calm, not aggressive and good with other dogs in general, two GSD is in most cases asking for troubles, when together they could get out of control and even become aggressive toward each other, strangers, other dogs or even family members.

One of my favorite breeds is a Golden Retriever. A very intelligent dog, loyal, easy to train, and tends to get along with other animals. I had one, and she got along great with my other dogs and my cats. A Labrador Retriever would be another good option. I would see about getting one of those breeds. I hope this helps!

If your german shepard is not well behaved or aggressive I would highly recommend getting him under control before bringing a new dog into the situation. If he is aggressive as in growling/biting at people he should see a veterinary behaviorist. If he is just wild/doesn't listen, he should go to a dog trainer (with you) to get under control. Ask your veterinarian for a recommendation for a trainer because not all trainers are equal. Once your dog is under control you can consider adding another dog into the household IF your dog is not aggressive to other dogs. You may consider working with a dog rescue who can find a dog for you that gets along well with other large dogs and will allow you to test the dogs out together. Breed doesn't matter as much as personality of the individual dogs.

I always think it is better to two dogs than one. I believe they tend to adjust better and do better with training and socializing. As far as whether or not you can keep two unaltered male dogs, absolutely. However, there will definitely be an increased chance for fighting than if they were both neutered. Training and socialization will be of utmost importance at an early age if this is your plan. Hope this helps.

This would likely be a great idea! Most puppies get along with other puppies. If you have friends with other friendly dogs, you may try to see how she does around them first. Once you find a dog you want to adopt, you may ask the rescue if you can do a meet and greet and see if they get along before adopting the new dog. Also, if you do adopt a new dog, I would not leave them alone without supervision for a little while until you are confident that they will get along. I would also not feed them together or give them bones as this can increase the competition feeling. I hope this helps!

Supervise them when they’re together and make sure your dog knows it’s wrong to chase the cat. Goldens are very smart so give plenty of praise and rewards when the dog is well behaved. Usually once the novelty wears off the the kitten matures they will ignore each other or may become close friends.
