Best affordable dog food for my 2-year-old mutt with limited choices?

Look at the packages for information on the calories. You will want one with higher calories. Try to stick to the better quality foods. Iams, Purina One, Eukanuba and Nutro are all moderately priced and are good diets. Ask about a membership or purchase punch card which some pet stores may have to help save costs. Often, setting up an automatic shipment can save money as well. I hope this helps.

I would recommend feeding a mid grade food if possible. Alpo is not my favorite but a reasonable alternative is Purina. It is more affordable than taste of the wild. If your dog is doing well you don’t need to change the food but there are healither alternatives.

I would recommend feeding a diet from a company with a good reputation, who employs veterinary nutritionists to help formulate their diets and does AAFCO feeding trials to prove that their diets provide complete and balanced nutrition when fed long-term. Companies that meet these criteria include Iams, Purina, and Royal Canin. Purina Dog Chow Complete Adults would be a very reasonable choice.

Hello. You have quite a very handsome group of pups! The best dog foods most vets will recommend are those made by Purina, Hill's Science Diet & Royal Canin. I personally feed mine Purina One True Instincts. These may not be the very cheapest foods out there, but they are definitely more reasonable than the incredibly high priced boutique foods which are no better than the basics. Great question! The difference is the ingredients. The pro food will have higher quality ingredients, more specially the protein source and the cuts used in the food. That is why it is more expensive. If you can't afford the pro food, you can try Iams. It's still a high quality food but it is not as expensive as Pro Plan, Eukanuba, and Hills :-)

Hello. There is absolutely nothing wrong with feeding Purina Dog Chow if your dog is doing well on it. Just because it does not have a fancy name does not make it a bad food & some of the really pricy brands are pretty crappy. Purina, along with Hill's & Royal Canin, are the most respected dog food manufacturers. These companies employ veterinary nutritionists to formulate & test their products on real dogs & this means more to veterinarians than any formula just based on laboratory data.
