Is it safe to use baking soda, powder, butter, sugar in dog treats?

Garlic and onions both have the potential to be toxic, but amount and size of your animal contribute greatly to the toxicity level. The ASPCA poison control is a great resource for toxic chemicals, plants and foods if you would like more information. My suspicion is the dog treats have a very small amount of garlic and it is probably for flavor. I still find it interesting that it would contain it at all and if you were nervous about it I simply would not administer any more of the treats. Some of my favorite treats that I recommend for pet owners are things like dehydrated chicken or turke. Just simple strips of meat that don't contain any preservatives or any additional ingredients. I also like carrots and green beans depending on what your dog is willing to eat. Like with most pet food I try to encourage people to find things with simple, clean ingredients. Just like with our groceries, there are a lot of choices out there and not all are as healthy as the manufacturer would like us to believe.

Great question! Oatmeal, sugar (not too much!), baking soda, peanut butter (again not too much!!!), and eggs are fine. According to the Pet Poison Hotline, "Pumpkin spice products are usually flavored with a mix of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Ingestion of very large amounts of cinnamon can potentially cause vomiting, diarrhea, lowered blood sugar, irritation of the mouth and lungs, and possibly changes in heart rate and issues with the liver. Nutmeg contains a toxin called myristicin, and toxicity can cause symptoms including hallucinations, disorientation, increased heart rate, high blood pressure, dry mouth, abdominal pain, and possibly seizures. Ingestion of large amounts of ginger can cause stomach upset and lethargy." As long as there are not large amounts of either cinnamon or pumpkin spice in the cookies, they should be fine for Princess. Hello, thank you for using Pet Coach. You are likely to get better compliance from Joshie if you use commercial toothpaste made for dogs as it is flavored and dogs actually like it. If you don't make it taste good she will probably not be too happy with the brushing procedure. What is bad for dogs in human toothpaste is the flouride. So, esentially you can use human children's toothpaste as it does not contain flouride. She probably won't like those flavors either though. You can make your own toothpaste if you want to. Baking soda is not toxic to dogs and should be fine to use. Do not use hydrogen peroxide as that will cause vomiting if she swallows too much of it. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. speaking from experience, years ago with my dog we made him a peanut butter carrot doggie cake for his 13th birthday. A simple Google search will give you multiple recipes to make this type of cake. The ingredients are safe and my dog loved the taste. Ingredients consists of peanut butter, carrots, vegetable oil, honey, whole wheat flour and egg. Obviously avoid things like chocolate, artificial sweeteners and lots of added sugar. Neither of these should be given in any significant quantity. In some dog foods, there will be small amounts of sugars and salts. However, any excessive amount of either of these can result in illnesses. Salt in large amounts is especially dangerous, as this can result in kidney issues that can be difficult to resolve.

Yes, both of these foods are safe for dogs - there's no reason that you couldn't give them every day, in small amounts as a treat. Just make sure that you're not using a sugar-free brand of peanut butter, as some of these contain xylitol which is toxic for dogs. Most "regular" peanut butter brands are fine :)

Maltitol is not toxic to dogs like some other artificial sweeteners (such as xylitol), but it can sometimes cause GI upset or diarrhea in some dogs. So if possible, it would be better to use a treat that doesn't contain any artificial sweeteners at all. Many dogs enjoy cooked carrots or green beans, or small pieces of chicken or roast beef as treats. If you do opt to give Pepper the cookies, I would limit it to a small amount very occasionally to minimize the risk of upsetting her stomach.
