Does Babesia raise WBC count? What's the best treatment for my dog?

If the Imidocarb did not clear the babesia, please discuss with your veterinarian the use of one of these 3 treatments: Diminazene aceturate; Atovaquone & Azithromycin for at least 10 days; or Enrofloxacin, Doxycycline & metronidazole combination for 6 weeks. Hopefully, one of these treatments is available to you & will clear the Babesia from Gundu. Take care.

Hello, the elevations of the cells is very mild. It appears that she may have a mild infection, given that his eosinophils are high, the most likely cause may be associated with parasites. Babesia gibsoni can be very hard to completely clear and is an infection that can remain in hiding/dormant with no outward clinical signs. Therapy with variety of different medications has been tried with varying success. Months (2-3) of therapy is often needed. It is important that control of the vector (ticks) be a priority in preventing reinfection if the current infection is cleared.

If this is the number of platelets then yes absolutely Tuffy needs treatment or he is at serious risk of uncontrolled bleeding. If that number is related to red or white blood cells, then that would depend on the reference ranges of that blood machine and how Tuffy is acting. If he is acting normal and eating great, maybe he does not need treatment. If he has been acting sick or not eating well, you should definitely treat him. Best wishes to you and Tuffy.
