My dog fights ear drops! How to apply alone & manage wet ears?

Poor Canelo! Ear infections can be very painful. I would recommend asking your veterinarian about one of the long lasting ear infection treatments that do not require you to medicate them at home. It can be really hard to treat a dog when they don't want it. I would recommend calling your vet to see if there is a different type of medication that would work. There are some that can be placed in the ear at the vet clinic that can last through the whole treatment period. Most ear ointments are a little oily or thick in order to stay in contact with the skin inside the ear canal as long as possible, so it is absolutely normal to feel the ointment in the ear later on. I usually recommend a cleaning solution along with ointment, and you can ask your vet if there is a cleaning solution that they recommend to use to clear out the remaining ointment before applying the next dose. I also would get an E-collar (or "cone") for Norman to prevent him from scratching his ear so that he doesn't cause any additional trauma. You should definitely continue to ointment to continue treating the infection, stopping could make the infection worse and more difficult to treat in the future.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach! Sorry that Chance is having this issue. I suggest you use a medicated ear wash (see link below) and an actual ear medication (also linked below). Clean the ears and medicate once per day but do them at opposite times of the day (clean in the evening and medicate in the morning or vice-versa). You don't want to put the medication in the ears on top of the cleaning solution. Do both for AT LEAST 7-10 days. It is not a good idea to try and apply ear mediccine while she is asleep. I suggest you ask your vet whether a differen medication such as Osurnia, which can be applied in the vet's office once and is good for 7 days is not an alternative to struggling with your dog. If not, you may need to put a muzzle on your dog every time you intend to apply the medication.

Poor Sansa! How stressful for all of you. There are ear medications that can be administered at the vet's office, that work on their own for up to two weeks without you needing to do anything with the ears at home. We use them frequently at our clinic, because many dogs with sore, painful ears will not allow them to be handled at home! I would recommend calling your vet to let them know that you aren't able to adminster the meds at home, and asking about a long-acting option like Claro or BNT ointment. Even if they don't carry these meds normally, they may be able to order them for you, and you can bring her back to their office to have them apply the medication if needed.
