My American Bulldog has red skin. What's the cause and treatment?

However, this depends if they truly are due to an infection and the extent of it. For that reason, I highly recommend you check in with your veterinarian for a physical exam prior to starting any therapies. This sounds like he may have gotten into an ant nest or have a secondary skin infection from an allergic reaction. I recommend a veterinary exam and probably antibiotics to heal this skin infection. In the mean time you can bathe Browny in a medicated shampoo and apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on the sores he can't reach to lick. Your veterinarian can also give medication to reduce the itch and inflammation. This sounds painful also so please take him in soon for treatment. The pictures are a little hard to make out clearly and I really can't say for certain what the cause of Leo's skin condition is without examining Leo first. My best advice is Leo see his veterinarian to get some diagnostics done on his skin so the most appropriate treatment can be prescribed. If there is an infection present, Leo may need antibiotics. In the mean time, you can try Zymox spray or cream which can be purchased online or through your local PetStore. If Leo's skin does not improve or becomes worse, please see your local veterinarian. Skin red spots are commonly due to secondary bacterial infection (fulliculitis). A check up, appropriate disinfection and eventually antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid licking (if any).
