Which affectionate, hypoallergenic cat or dog is right for me?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old

What can I do differently if I decide to get another cat in the future even though it would be #4 is this a sign that maybe I’d do better with a dog they don’t seem to be as wishy washy as cats and I need a pet that gives affection and wants to receive as well. So far I’ve had two pets who either didn’t give or want affection or no longer give. Also what are the best cats and or dogs for people with allergies less dander and hair but also affectionate?

Maybe a dog would be a better pet for you. Cats by nature can be standoffish, and while there are breeds that are extremely affectionate like Ragdolls, that would not be good for your allergies. I would think very carefully about getting another pet, and I say this gently. Given this would be #4, it's not fair to the animal to keep giving them away in search of finding an animal that meets all your needs. They are living creatures, and it's hard on an animal when it's taken away from it's home and moved to new circumstances. No one animal will be perfect, and when you take on the responsibility of an animal, it deserves love and respect as well as a stable home. Should you decide to get a dog, I'd recommend one like Poodle or a poodle mix like a Goldendoodle. Those are good for people with allergies. I hope this helps!

I find the small breed dogs to generally not cause allergies as much as the larger breed dogs, so it's good that you are in the market for a small breed dog. If a week goes by and your kids are not showing signs of allergies, then you can be rather sure that the new dog will not cause allergies. Allergies definitely stink. I know a lot of veterinarians out there that end up developing allergies to dogs or cats throughout their careers and it makes their lives very difficult. In terms of things that you can do, the first thing I would recommend is speaking with your allergist or dermatologist about possibly getting allergy shots. Some people have a lot of luck with these. It makes owning a cat not only possible, but enjoyable. Secondly, just like there are hypoallergenic dogs, there are hypoallergenic cats. While no dogs are completely hypoallergenic there are some that have less dander than others. The most common of these breeds include the poodle, the Bichon Frise, and the Maltese. What medium, calm, low-shedding dog breeds do you recommend for me?

Any dogs with a wire coat or a curly coat will generally shed less than breeds who lack those features. Certainly checking out your local shelter is worthwhile as you may find the perfect companion right there! Otherwise, any poodle crosses will usually have these traits (although some may be more active). Miniature or Standard Schnauzers may be a good fit for you. Beagles and Cavaliers are generally very nice dogs but they do shed. Check out the AKC website as it has a wealth of breeds and information available. Ragdoll or Siberian: Which kitten for a student's apartment?

I am a huge fan of Ragdolls. They are frankly wonderful cats. I have one currently, and in my opinion, they are the greatest breed. Mine comes when he is called, as did my previous Ragdoll that passed away three years ago. Very low key and loving cats.. When you are home, the Ragdoll will greet you with love and attention. They prefer to lie around a lot and just be loved, and are very easy to live with as a pet. I would never allow a Ragdoll to go outside simply due to their docile nature, but they are very well suited for apartment living. My Ragdoll is sitting on my lap begging for attention as I type this! I'm probably hugely biased, but I think a Ragdoll would be best :-)

Will a low-shedding cat and dander spray reduce my pet allergies?
