Should my 4-week-old puppy be able to pee and poop on its own?

As long as she is eating, playful and not straining give her more time. If she can urinate in her own she can poop on her own. You can also call the person you got her from to double check what she did with them. Since you are seeing your vet tomorrow she should be fine. Have a good day!

It sounds like the smaller puppy may have ‘failure to thrive’. This is especially common with puppies from large litters and not surprising since the mother dog is refusing to feed them. It sounds like the bigger pup is doing great and you don’t need to worry about him at all. You should get a small scale (like a gram scale) so you can weigh the smaller pup everyday to ensure she is gaining weight. It is a little early but you could try to start introducing puppy food her as well. You can mix the canned food with milk replacer or moisten kibble with the milk replacer and see if she prefers this. If she is not eating much it makes sense that she is not pooping as frequently. Continue to stimulate her to defecate several times a day. You should also have the puppies dewormed at this age as well. If the puppy continues to refuse food after trying the above suggestions, you may need to take her to the vet to be examined. Your vet can also instruct you on how to safely syringe feed (or possibly tube feed) the puppy to ensure she is getting proper nutrition. I hope this helps. She should go anytime now really, urine more often than poo. She may be holding it in with all tge excitement. Don't worry too much, she should urinate soon if you let her down on the ground. You would expect her to poo a couple of times in the day.

Puppies typically nurse every 2-4 hours until 3-4 weeks old then it can be every 4-6 hours. If he has a good suckle reflex that is a good sign and he is probably hungry. You will use puppy milk replacement until he is weaned which generally starts around 4-5 weeks of age the. Transition to soft puppy food and decrease milk feedings. They do have to stay warm. Their normal body temperature is 100 so that can be a sign if shaking. You have to gently wipe their behind and probates to stimulate them to go to the bathroom. This should be done after every meal. They generally sleep a lot and as they get older and more coordinated then they stay awake longer

As Luscious is not yet 4 weeks old and puppies are generally still nursing their mothers until 8 weeks of age...he will ideally need to be fed puppy milk replacer form a bottle approximately every 2 hours (I know! Caring for young puppies is very labor intensive) and wiping his genitalia (including perianal area) with hypoallergenic baby wipes several times a day to stimulate pooping and peeing similar to how the mother dog licks their genitalia to stimulate bowel movements and to keep them clean. If after feeding more frequently and wiping his perianal area more frequently, he isn’t pooping more frequently or seems less active/cold, definitely bring him in to see your vet asap! Mom kicks them to stimulate then to go and invest all urine and fecal material. You generally won’t see it until they get a little older or she backs off taking care of them. If they are eating and growing then she is doing a good job and I would not worry
