Why are my unspayed female cats fighting, hissing, and spraying?

This is the time of year when cats start to come into heat again, and if she isn't spayed and there is an intact male nearby, she may be going into heat and trying to push away her previous litter in order to make room for a new one. If you do not wish to have more kittens, I highly recommend having Chloe (and the kittens) spayed if the male cannot be. 5 cats (plus the others you mentioned) is also a lot of cats, and the sheer number may be very stressful for her. As a starting point, make sure that both of your cats have been neutered, as intact male cats will often spray urine due to hormone influences. If the two females cats are not spayed I suggest you do that as soon as possible. That could sure be the reason for the tension. Hello. If you are not planning on breeding Booger, than please consider spaying her. She may be experiencing some wild hormonal imbalances, especially if she has developed cystic ovaries. Removing the source of the hormones may settle her down considerably. You can also try using the feline appeasing pheromone, Feliway that can help calm a cat. It sounds as though Sam has a behavioral problem with aggression. If you have not tried the Feliway products yet, I would recommend doing so. These are pheremone products that are supposed to help calm cats down. I would make sure that she has plenty of environmental enrichment (toys, scratch posts, etc.). If your cats have spent most of their time outdoors and now are spending time inside together then this change in environment could be causing tensions. If they are still outside all the time then it is possible that a new cat has come into the neighborhood and this has disrupted the social structure of the cats, or potentially one of the cats could be feeling unwell and therefore being more defensive, or they could feel they are having to compete for food/shelter. I would be sure both cats have equal access to food and water (they may need their own separate areas to eat/drink so they don't feel threatened) and litter boxes indoors.
