How to trap feral cats for TNR if they won't let me touch them?

It can be very difficult to catch a feral cat that has already been trapped. Once they have been caught, they learn how to avoid being caught again. You can continue to try leaving different types of cat and human food in a live trap (tuna, wet cat food, dry cat food, chicken breast), and cover it with a blanket so it is dark and "safe" in there. Try to avoid touching the trap more than necessary so it doesn't have human scent on it. You can also continue trying to feed the cat in hopes that she learns to trust you. However, not all outdoor cats want human interaction, and she may not be a very good candidate for a house cat.

Hello, I would recommend using a feral cat trap to trap the cat and take it to an animal shelter. They will be able to examine and treat the cats under sedation. It often takes a very long time to socialize feral cats, and some may be wild animals forever no matter how much effort is instilled. I hope this is helpful.

They will hopefully be able to find enough food on their own as long although it may be difficult if they have been fed since they were kittens and have not acquired hunting skills. You may want to see if there is a rescue organization near you that could help trap and spay/neuter the cats to decrease the population and even rehome some to work in barns or warehouses as mousers. I am sorry to hear about your frustrations with this kitty. I don't think you are likely to be able to trap her with a normal cat carrier if she is this shy as she will likely run as you approach it. I would see if there is a local rescue group or animal shelter in your area that has traps they use for this issue. Thank you for submitting your question regarding the stray cats. It will likely take you time to gain their trust. I recommend feeding them daily or whenever you have time. Eventually they will likely pet them and then take them to your home. Unless you use a humane trap, there really isn't another way to catch them. Good luck!

How lovely of you to want to do this for Grumpy! I would call a local cat rescue or the SPCA. They can set up a cat trap to catch him to get these things done. You can also get a cat trap yourself, and trap him to get him into the vet.
