Stray cat bald with scabs: Is it fleas? Should I use Frontline?

This looks like mange but it could also be ringworm or a bacterial skin infection. If she is handleable I suggest you get her to a vet for an exam. There are many low cost clinics in your area including the Humane Society. It would be great if she could be spayed and vaccinated too even if you plan on just putting her back outside.

Fleas are a very common cause of scratching, so it will be worthwhile to apply Frontline if he is not on any other flea products at the moment. There are also some other causes of itching, like mites and certain skin diseases, so if the Frontline is not helping within three days of use, then it would be best to take DC to a vet for diagnosis and treatment of his condition. I am sorry that Pharaoh is not feeling well. It is very hard to tell by the pictures what is going on with the skin . It is possible an allergic reaction, skin infection, skin mites or even auto immune disease can cause the above lesions. How lovely of you to look after this stray! There are a number of things that could cause him to lose weight, such as intestinal worms, diabetes, kidney disease, or hyperthyroidism to name a few. He could also possibly have fleas. It's important to make sure your cats are up to date on their flea treatments and deworming treatments. As for the stray, I would take him into the SPCA if you don't want to assume financial responsibility for him. They can get him the veterinary attention he needs and find him a home. Otherwise, you can take him into the vet yourself :-)

It sounds more like he probably has ringworm. Very common in kittens. If you don't have the funds to properly care for him then you should relinquish him to the local shelter/humane society so he can get the proper care. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I have not ever seen Frontline cause hair loss. However, I have seen Frontline cause reactions on the skin. This is a topical product that you used and anytime a topical product is used it has the chance to cause a reaction or irritation which may include hair loss. You can try and wash the area where the front line was applied with a oatmeal based shampoo and rinse it very well or just wait and see if after 4 weeks the problem still persists. If it continues to spread or does not resolve then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine this so that the most appropriate Diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
