My cat always wants outside. How do I stop her free roaming?

This will depend on whether you want your kitty to be an indoor only cat or an indoor/outdoor cat. If you do not want him an outside cat you will just have to bear with it. He will eventually stop wanting to go out. You can also make a cat enclosure outside, so he can get at least the illusion of being outside. If you don't mind that your kitty goes outside, you can take him out for a walk in the yard or garden and then bring him in again. extend the trips every day. Make sure you do not free feed him then, but feed him canned food in the morning and evening calling him by name. That way he will come home when you call him. Make sure he stays inside at night.

Once cats have gotten a taste of the outdoors, it can sometimes be difficult to get them to want to stay inside. I would recommend getting a cat tree where she has a view of the outside and can lay in the sun. If possible, put a bird feeder just outside the window so she can watch the birds. Place a Feliway diffuser in that area. It can be very difficult to convince a cat that wants to go outdoors that it’s best to stay inside. I also really like a product called Feliway which helps to make cats feel more at ease in their environment. This is something you can easily get from your pet store or online. You should try giving Sunny environmental enrichment. Set aside 30 minutes to play with him every single day. Provide climbing opportunities such as shelving units and a tall cat tree. You can also find many interactive toys that can help. Lastly, you may try feeding him out of a kibble dispensing ball instead of a dish. This will stimulate his brain as well as give him physical activity. You must make sure however that he knows how to use it! Best of luck!

It may be difficult to train Angel not to run out the door when she has the chance. Certainly vigilance if the best option. There are invisible fence options and motion activated blow horns which can act as a negative deterrent for Angel. You can also try environmental enrichment such as adding climbing opportunities, daily play time and food puzzles. These additions may not reduce her escape behavior but it may help make her happier. It can be difficult to keep cats inside when they want to get out. First, I would recommend never taking Pawncho Jo (love the name!) outside through this door unless she is in a carrier - it is confusing to get to go out the door sometimes but not others. If possible, the best thing to do would be to confine her to another room when you are coming or going so that she can't access the door. This obviously wouldn't work in a busy house. I am usually reluctant to recommend any type of negative reinforcement for cats since it can lead to fear and undesirable behavior, but you could try making a loud noise when she approaches the door or using something like a Sssscat forced air can to scare her away.
