My senior indoor cat hates vets. Does she need her booster shot?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 16 years and 10 months old

My cat is 16 years old and no longer leaves the house. She seems in good health but is due a booster vaccination. However, when we took her to the vets last time she become severely distressed by the journey (puking, pooping, peeing, crying). I am scared if I take her again she will have a heart attack or something. She doesn't leave the house anymore anyway - is there any use her putting her through that stress? Is the vaccination that important considering she doesn't go outside?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cheeky. I still recommend vaccinating older pets as they are more susceptible to disease due to weakened immune systems. I would ask her veterinarian for a mild sedative such as gabapentin to relax her for transport. I hope this information helps!
