Why is my senior cat losing weight, not eating, and acting depressed?

Hello, sorry to hear about Kit Kat. Things you can do include offering plenty of household enrichment to include toys, cat trees, and scratching posts. Make sure that the litter box is in a quiet private place for her. You can use pheromone diffusers such as Feliway sprays to calm her down as well. Ultimately, Kit Kat should also be evaluated by a veterinarian if these signs do not resolve or if they get worse as she could have an underlying disease which is causing her weight loss and diarrhea. It is difficult to tell for sure without checking her over. It could be that her colitis is making her feel run down or it could be a slight worsening of one of her other conditions. I would recommend to keep an eye on how much she is drinking and how is her appetite and if she is having any vomiting. If she is just a little lethargic, I would book her in for a check up with your vet in the morning. Whilst if she is vomiting orhaving more diarrhoea than usual, I would recommend an earlier check up.

I would recommend having Lilly see a veterinarian. I would want to make sure it isn't medically related and more related to having the other cats gone. If they don't see anything medically going on I would recommend making sure you are spending extra quality time with her doing things she loves and then discussing medication with your vet. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. So sorry your cat is having this issue. I suggest you get him to your vet for a check up and some blood testing. Thyroid disease is very common in older cats as is kidney disease and diabetes. All of these things can cause similar symptoms and all are easily diagnosed with simple blood testing. You need to realize that at 17 years old he is about 85 in human years. At this age, things start to fail and go wrong. You need to find out what is wrong so you know how to best treat him. Some things are very easily treated with daily medications. I don't think this is something you are going to be able treat at home without knowing what the underlying cause is. Hope this helps. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Mystique! I would start with a Vet exam as she is a senior cat to be sure the symptoms you are seeing aren't medical in nature. At almost 15 I would worry about kidney and liver disease, diabetes, an over active thyroid and cancer or even arthritis for her depression. It has also been 3 years, animals do feel sadness when the house hold changes but that is a long time to assume her behavior is due to that. If she medically checks out fine I would try to enrich her environment to stimulate her and get a few Feliway diffusers. Hi, I personally think depression would be more transient and would have happened earlier not after settling so I would recommend to have her checked over. Hope this helps and it is nothing too serious.

Poor girl. With those symptoms, I would highly recommend a vet visit as soon as possible. There are many different possible causes and the symptoms you're describing span multiple organ systems, so I can't give you a very accurate "most likely" list. The vet will start with a detailed physical exam and go from there, likely including some blood work and x-rays.
