My senior cat is not eating, hiding, in pain, and not using litter.

Older cats are prone to many diseases, including kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, infections, cancer, etc. He should be examined by a vet for a work-up with blood-work and a urinalysis to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat and manage his problems.

With the description and blood results, I worry about a condition known as hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) or triaditis (inflammation of the pancreas, liver and small intestines). For fatty liver disease, a feeding tube is generally recommended to help bring cats out of this condition as nutritional support is key and extremely important in these cases. I would recommend an abdominal ultrasound as the next diagnostic step to help better determine what the cause could be. If Kitty is still not wanting to eat, you need to consider hospitalization and feeding tube placement to help her get through this. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Missy has to see a vet as soon as possible. When a cat doesn't eat for three days, they develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. She needs to see a vet now to prevent that from happening. In a senior cat like Missy, her anorexia could be caused by kidney failure, cancer, diabetes, and liver failure among other causes. It's also serious that she hasn't used the litter box in two days. She needs a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, and urinalysis to diagnose what is causing her symptoms so she can be treated.

These signs are probably not due to old age alone and there is likely something going on with Shadoe. Unfortunately, without a full physical exam and diagnostic testing, it is not possible to determine what could be causing these signs. However, lethargy and eating and drinking very little along with weight loss are very concerning signs that warrant a visit to the veterinarian. She could have a number of serious problems wrong with her causing her anorexia, such as kidney failure, liver failure, severe dental problems, or even cancer. I would have her seen by a vet now for a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, and urinalysis to diagnose what may be causing her symptoms. Once a cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment options with you.

With the symptoms you are describing I tend to test for advanced kidney disease or hyperthyroidism. I would encourage him to eat as best you can and get him to a veterinarian. With blood work and a urinalysis they should be able to give you a diagnosis and help direct you as to what is next

I'm so sorry that Cleo is having these problems. Since you mentioned that she is hyperthyroid, I would be sure to check her thyroid level and her blood pressure. If either is high, it could be responsible for the behavioral changes that you are noticing. I would also recommend checking a urine sample since urinary tract infections are common in older female cats to make sure that isn't playing a role in her sudden changes. Cleo is certainly an older girl and not eating as much is certainly a worrying sign, but I would make sure there isn't any treatable explanation for her recent behavioral changes. Good luck!
