My senior cat isn't eating, has crusty eyes, hair loss, and scabs.

In an older cat, my first thought would be dental disease. This would be painful for Krinkle, cause him to eat less, and subsequent weight loss. It could also be that he has diabetes, kidney failure, or hyperthyroidism. Having him seen by a vet this week is a good idea. I hope this helps!

Clyde needs to see his veterinarian. Just like with humans, many things can make cats threw up and not eat. This can range from a parasitic infestation to an intestinal blockage. Any pet who is not eating for 24 hours needs to be examined by the doctor as dehydration and other complications can set in quickly. Have Clyde examined today. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. So sorry your cat is having this issue. I suggest you get him to your vet for a check up and some blood testing. Thyroid disease is very common in older cats as is kidney disease and diabetes. All of these things can cause similar symptoms and all are easily diagnosed with simple blood testing. You need to realize that at 17 years old he is about 85 in human years. At this age, things start to fail and go wrong. You need to find out what is wrong so you know how to best treat him. Some things are very easily treated with daily medications. I don't think this is something you are going to be able treat at home without knowing what the underlying cause is. Hope this helps. Without images it is very difficult to assess what may be going on. It would be worthwhile getting a second opinion but a tumour in the mouth or sinuses may well be affecting the drainage from her eyes or nose and may be contributing to the signs you can see, an the smell you describe is likely related to an infection or damaged tissue. A sedated oral exam and xrays or CT scan would help to investigate everything that may be happening, including tear production and drainage which may be contributing to the crusts and blood shot eyes

If the issue is progressing then it is likely something that needs to be seen by a vet. It's possible there is an underlying metabolic issues, especially with Cal's age, or there is something such as parasites or a skin infection causing the hair loss. Keeping him from licking and chewing the area with an Elizabethan (cone) collar may help resolve the issue, but if it keeps worsening or doesn't improve, it needs to be seen. If he has trouble going into a carrier, using some very smelly warmed up cat food or even fried chicken to entice him to enter the carrier may help make it easier to get him to your vet. A pheromone diffuser spray can also help stressed cats relax some at the vet or in a car.

Poor Garfield. At age 17 that is an awful lot going on and I'd be worried there is an underlying issue such as kidney or organ failure, disease, etc. Since he's so old and is having so many symptoms, it's best to bring him to your vet ASAP. They will likely want to run a few tests such as bloodwork or an X-ray to check his organ function, etc. If you can, bringing in urine or stool samples can also help with any testing and help streamline the process. Until you can get the vet, keeping him as comfortable as possible and keeping his eyes and nose clear with a clean washcloth can help. Some cats also do better eating if they can smell the food, so warming up his food or adding some boiled chicken that is smelly may encourage him to eat a little until you can be seen.
