My senior cat has a hard bump on her neck. Could it be cancer?

My "new" 8 year old cat seems to have a cutaneous horn on her neck....doesn't seem to bother her..is this cancer

The "horn" needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take her to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cat. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She could have an infection on or under her skin. If this is not the case, then she could have a mass that has grown. In this case, she would need a procedure known as a fine needle aspirate. The veterinarian would use a small needle to collect a sample of cells to evaluate under the microscope. This will help to diagnose the mass and determine if surgical removal is necessary. These hard bumps on Lucy could be cysts, benign tumors, or malignant tumors. Any suspicious bumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on them. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the bump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would have Lucy seen by a vet for these bumps. I would also recommend having a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis done on her. That's to check how her organs are functioning, and if there are any concerning health problems that may be underlying.

That looks like it may be a cutaneous horn-type growth. Sometimes, they can dry up and fall off on their own, however, they can also sometimes be cancerous. With any new bump, it's always best to confirm in person with your vet as it is not always possible to determine what a growth is by looks alone. Your vet can take a sample of the growth to determine the cell type, or safely remove it if it is bothersome or itchy for Tiger. Until you get to Tiger's next vet checkup, keep an eye on the area for any signs of something more serious ongoing such as rapid changes in size, redness, irritation, irregular shape changes, pus, or discharge. These are all signs that the growth should be seen ASAP instead.

What is this lump on my 11-year-old cat's neck? Is it cancer?

It looks like a benign cyst to me but, of course, I cannot be 100% sure just by looking at a photo. Whenever you get a chance just take her to your vet so they can check it in person. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
