My senior cat has a bad face sore and is eating more. Is she sick?

There can be many causes of sores in cats, including bacterial infection, ringworm, mites, fleas, allergies, and, yes, cancer is also a possibility. After a thorough physical exam, your vet may recommend diagnostics like skin cytology to look at cells under a microscope, skin scrapes to look for mites, fungal cultures to identify ringworm, or biopsies to look for cancer.

It's very hard to judge from a picture, it could be an infection but at her age a tumor would not be surprising. this sore needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Kitty to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

As cats age, they can develop a variety of metabolic issues, including an overactive thyroid, diabetes, and kidney disease, among others. These can lead to appetite changes, as well as fur changes. Those aren't inherently concerning signs, so I think it's ok to just keep an eye on him for any more changes at this point. If he starts to get thin, while asking for more food, I would be concerned about hyperthyroid disease. They will need to take a sample, generally a fine-needle aspirate, to help determine what the growth is and if it needs to be removed, drained, or treated. If your kitty doesn't like going to the vet, you can call ahead to see if they can prescribe a sedative to give at home before bringing her in which can help make things less stressful (and easier for your vet to get a sample of the growth).
