Hi there! It's possible that this could be allergy related, especially if Perry sounds congested when he breathes or if he is having any sneezing or nasal discharge. The breathing changes could also be due to a respiratory infection, bronchitis, feline asthma, or even a more serious problem such as heart disease or a tumor in his chest. Since some of these problems can be quite serious, I would recommend taking Perry to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to. The vet can listen to his heart and lungs, and may recommend chest x-rays or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem.

You are correct that Jeje's respiratory rate is higher than normal, but it's good that he's breathing with his mouth closed. I would be very concerned if he was opening mouth breathing, as that's a sign of respiratory distress in cats. He may not be feeling well at the moment leading to the increased respiratory rate. Because I can't see him in person, I can't say for certain he will be ok, so it's certainly fine to take him into a vet now for a health check. Otherwise, you can monitor him, and if his respiratory rate is still high in the morning, I would have him seen by a vet.

These are all signs that Jezzie may not be obtaining enough oxygen and may need emergency medical attention. One big concern in cats that have respiratory disease such as feline asthma is that they can develop respiratory crisis which could be life threatening. Therefore, any sings of respiratory disease warrants prompt veterinary evaluation. Please have Jezzie evaluated by your veterinarian if she continues to sneeze or an emergency veterinarian if she is having a hard time breathing or is showing any of the signs listed above. Asthma is the # 1 cause for these symptoms. However, it could also be pain from the lower GI tract, underlying heart disease, pleural effusion, or any other lung disorder. If this continues for more than 3-6 hrs, or if Harley seems to have labored breathing and isn't oxygenating well (blue tongue, open mouth breathing, etc), then its best to take him in to your vet for bloodwork +/- chest x-rays to help diagnose the underlying problem and get him on the proper treatment. If he is breathing heavy then he should be examined by a vet for a work-up. Your vet can take an x-ray to evaluate his heart and lungs to look for abnormalities that would cause him to breathe heavy. He could have an infection, heart disease, asthma, trauma from being outside, etc.

Poor Spice! These breathing problems could be caused by heart disease, respiratory disease, or cancer among others. This is quite a serious symptom in senior cats, as there are a number of severe diseases that can cause this, and I would have Spice seen today for a physical exam, a geriatric blood panel, urinalysis, and x-rays. Hi there, Increased respiratory rates in cats can be due to stress, lung disease, asthma, fever as well as other diseases. Since this happens daily, I would recommend taking Milo in for a chest x-ray to see what's going on and go from there.
