Why is my senior cat breathing hard, clumsy, and very lethargic?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 5 months old | 20 lbs

Cat, she is around the age of 10-11 yrs old, the last 3 days I've noticed some major changes in her behavior, including, when she is sleeping her breathing is as though she is having to force and fight for it, after about a minute or 2 her breathing becomes very rapid, she is walking and moving slower than normal, she falls over and is clumsy, she is eating less, staying in one area of the living room and always sleeping or dozing off, her paws have a slight chill to them, she croaks not meow.

Hi, I think it would be better to have Bug ‘a’ Boo checked over as might have something that causes all the symptoms described that will just get worse over the course of time and might not be treatable anymore. It could be just an upper airways or chest infection. Hope she gets better soon !
