Why is my senior cat leaving blood spots or trickles on the floor?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Waffle. I would have her examined by her veterinarian. She may have a urinary tract infection and be leaking blood tinged urine. She could also have a sore tooth causing her gums to bleed. Skin wounds are more obvious so I suspect that you would have seen one in checking her over. Check her litter box though and see if she has any evidence of blood in the urine clumps or diarrhea or stool that is blood tinged. I hope this information helps!

I am sorry to hear about Tiger. A photo of the area may help us to better determine what could be going on with him. There are several different possibilities, including a prolapse urethra (especially if the tip of the penis looks round or enlarged), cystitis, stones in the bladder or urethra, a mass/tumor in the bladder, or a bad bladder infection. I would recommend getting him in to see a vet today. If you think he is unable to urinate or he seems lethargic/is vomiting then it would be considered an emergency as he could have a urethral obstruction/blockage and this can be deadly if untreated. The vet will examine him and may test his urine and recommend an x-ray to determine the source of his problem.

These are very concerning signs - bleeding from the mouth can be a sign of a serious illness such as heart disease, severe liver or kidney disease, a clotting disorder, or severe dental problems. Combined with the fact that he is just laying down and pooping without realizing it, I would be very worried that he has a serious, life-threatening problem as this is extremely abnormal in cats - it often indicates that they are so weak and sick that they don't notice or care that they are soiling themselves. I would recommend getting your kitty to an emergency vet right away - he/she can do a thorough oral exam, and may also need to do blood work and x-rays to help diagnose the problem and see what can be done to help him.

Yes I would be concerned about Lacey. It's not normal to leave small blood spots where she sits, nor is it normal for her to have blood in feces. The black color of her vagina area is concerning as well, as that could be dried blood. There could be a number of reasons for her symptoms such as a UTI, pyometra, GI ulcers, or GI tumors to name a few. She should see a vet for these problems, and I would take her into one first thing in the morning. Best of luck!

I would be very suspicious that he had a urinary blockage, was able to pass the obstructing material and that's when he got all wet and litter covered and may have passed blood. It would be the best plan if action to take him to your veterinarian for an exam and a urinalysis. Explain exactly what is going on. He may have an infection, crystalsi in his urine or bladder stones. If he was obstructed, he could do it again very soon and this can be a life threatening emergency.

I am sorry to hear about your concern for Tibou. If Tibou has a normal energy level and has been eating and drinking, and is able to urinate, and if you press on her belly and she isn't painful then this is something that can probably wait until your vet opens in the morning. We can see urinary tract infections in older cats in particular females with kidney disease. A urinary tract infection can cause the symptoms you describe. Other possible causese could include bladder stones, sterile cystitis (inflammation of the bladder without infection), tumors of the bladder or other parts of the urinary tract, or primary renal hematuria. I would call your vet in the morning for an appointment where they can check the urine and may recommend imaging such as an x-ray or ultrasound. If Tibou is acting lethargic, has a painful abdomen, is vomiting or having trouble breathing, or hasn't been eating or drinking then a visit to the emergency vet is recommended. It is never wrong, however, to take your pet to the emergency vet if you feel very concerned and need peace of mind! She needs to be seen by a a vet. That is very red blood drops. It is either coming from the bladder and out her vulva or from the rectum. The only other option would be from an injury on her body somewhere. If she won't let you look I'm sure the vet can examine her. Since this has been going on for 3 days I would consider this pretty serious.
