My senior cat is anxious. What can I do for bald spots & meowing?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 20 lbs

I recently adopted an older cat from my mom's coworker. He's a very sweet and well behaved cat, and gets along well everybody. I'm concerned he's feeling more anxious than he appears though. He's declawed, but he's rubbed bald spots on his head above his eyes, under his chin, and one his tummy. He also has a habit of waking me up at 7a to meow at me until I stay up with him, even after I've feed him. He'll follow me around, and wants constant attention. what can I do to put him at ease.

He there. I would recommend a natural product called Feliway. They have an awesome website about cats and stress.

Their product is basically "happy cat pheromones " that is very calming to cats. These products work great! I would certainly give it a shot.

If it doesn't help you may want to take him to a vet for an exam. Older cats can have medical issues that can cause discomfort.

I hope this helps. Best wishes!
