How to get rid of spiders safely with a kitten? Are essential oils toxic?

I will link a website below that has lists of the many essential oils that are toxic to cats and ones that are safe around cats. Just as a note, lavender , fir needle, and spruce essential oils are all toxic to cats. I would not use essential oils. There are many that are toxic and aren't safe to have around cats. Ant bait stations are safe for cats and you can find ones with low toxicity. I recommend getting those to kill the ants. I hope this helps!

Hello. Most recipes I have seen recommend using 5 drops of peppermint oil to 16 oz water & a dash of soap, so check to make sure 10 drops will not be too strong for you. Just fill the bottle 1/2 way, add the 10 drops & see how it smells. If too strong, just fill the bottle the rest of the way with water. I do not think this will be a problem to any of your cats as long as the spray has a chance to dry before letting your cats back into the room. You can use the stronger dilution outdoors with no issues, but indoors, check to see how your cats react in just one area after the spray has dried. My take is that all essential oils are potentially very dangerous for cats so i would never take the chance. in addition and from experience, these products do not work to protect dogs from ticks and fleas so i strongly doubt they would work on cats.

Tea tree oil is toxic to cats, and I would not use it at all in your home, as there is a chance Poe could lick the oils and become very sick. Lavender is also toxic, as are citrus oils (orange) and eucalyptus. Peppermint and lemongrass are the only safe ones you have to use around Poe, and I would restrict your use to those essential oils only. You can also use cedar wood and rosemary.

I would not recommend using essential oils, cats are very sensitive to them and certain ones are highly toxic. I will be honest, I don't use a special cleaner in my home as a vet. I just don't let my animals into the clean area until it's completely dried, and I have never had an issue. Brands I use in New Zealand are likely different from ones you can get in the US, but even the cleaners you get at the grocery store are safe to use around your cat. Just don't let George in the area until it's completely dried. I hope this helps!

While direct contact with undiluted essential oils can be toxic to cats using a few drops in a spray or diffuser is unlikely to cause any problems. If your cats have asthma you may want to avoid any fragrances but otherwise I think you can continue to use your oils this way. Ask your veterinarian for advice if your cats have any health problems.
