My cat has ticks. Vet says no bath. How to remove ticks safely?

Ticks can be prevented with only 1 preventative that I am aware of on he market right now, and hat product is called Bravecto for cats. Here is a website link with more information. https://us.bravecto.com/for-cats.aspx But to rid the ticks that are on him currently, and also to treat for his other conditions (likely an upper respiratory infection and possible tick borne disease) I highly recommend taking him in to your vet for a proper exam and possible tests to make sure he didn’t get some infection from the ticks. They do look like seed ticks to me. They need to be removed. Get a small jar and pour a half inch of so of isopropyl alcohol in the bottom. If you have a set of fine tweezers or forceps, grasp the tick next to the skin and pull, being careful not to pinch your cat. If your cat isn't cooperative, you can dap a bit of petroleum jelly on the tick, which will block their pores so they can't breathe then they will back out after a while. You can also bathe your cat in a good flea and tick shampoo labeled for use on cats (Adams works well). Trim his claws first for your own safety and put a drop of mineral oil or a tiny strip of a non-medicated eye ointment (Artificial Tears is a good one) to keep the shampoo from stinging his eyes. Apply the shampoo generously, work it into a thick lather and let it stay on for at least ten minutes. You may need to use your fingernails to gently scrape the ticks loose from the skin, then rinse him thoroughly, making sure to remove all the shampoo from his coat. Towel dry very well and if he will tolerate it, use a blow dryer to dry him completely, using the warm, not hot setting.

YEs this is quite likely a tick bite reaction and there may be part of the tick still there causing irritation. Bathing with warm saline soaked cotton wool will help to keep the area clean if she allows you, monitor closely for increasing redness, pain, lameness or fever which may indicate a widespread infection which would require additional treatment. Hi, it is rare for cats to get lyme disease but they can become anemic from too many ticks as well as fleas. The best tick prevention out is called a Seresto collar. While they are more expensive than other flea collars, they last for months. You can order this online if no vets have it in your area. For now, pick the ticks off with tweezers, making sure to pinch from the base of the skin and pull hard to get the head. Some hair may come out with them and there may be a red spot. This will heal. Bathe her with Dawn dish soap right away to get it off her and call your vet. It can cause neurological problems and she may need supportive care. Blue Dawn is the best, but any dish soap will do in a pinch.

I would not advise using Apple Cider Vinegar for a bath. This is not safe because it will severely dry out your pets skin. I would recommend using regular flea/tick shampoo and then get Arjun on a flea/tick preventative such as Bravecto, Nexgard, or Advantix. I would also advise to get some tweezers and picking off any ticks that you see. You should watch a youtube video on how to properly remove a tick, because you have to ensre to get the head of the tick too. You will have to buy a treatment for ticks such as Frontlie spot on for example, you will need to apply the treatment on the back of the neck and wait about 24 hours until the ticks fall from her. you can also remove them manually with the aid of a tick remover but you still need to apply a treatment against ticks to protect her.
