Rat won't take liquid Metacam. Can I mix it with juice or ketchup?

Poor Graham! It looks like the skin condition was very severe, and requires pain medication. Placing the metacam in a treat that you are sure will be consumed, is a good idea. I also recommend trimming Graham's nails so that she cannot cause further trauma by scratching, and applying a small amount of SSD (silver sulfadiazene) ointment to the wounds to promote healing. Hello. You will need to get just a little bit tough with Pookie. You need to scruff her & tilt her head back so that her nose is pointed straight up. This will actually relax her jaw a bit where you can introduce the syringe into the side of her mouth. Drip the Metacam in & then praise her well. You may need to mix the antibiotic in a syringe of water and give it to her that way. If the antibiotic is a liquid you may also be able to mix it with peanut butter and feed it to her. You will need to ask your veterinarian about the exact dosage because it will be very different from the amount you’re putting in her water bottle. This depends on if the medicine is liquid or tablets. If liquid, you can either pour it over his food or squirt it directly into his mouth. If it is a tablet, crushing it into a fine powder and then sprinkling it over the food might work or you can mix it in with a snack such a peanut butter. Another option is to slip the pill into the side of his mouth and then gently hold his mouth closed until he swallows. Hi, what medication are you trying to give to Rajah ? It just sounds like a large volume for a cat. There is no magic trick that you can do to give him oral liquid medications without a syringe or without food. I would suggest that you try mixing it with a strong smelling food such as tuna in water and just give it when Rajah is hungry. The other thing that I would suggest that works great is putting them in pill pockets which you can buy from your local pet store or online. They are very palatable so they tend to like them. You can put the medicine in a treat but Gerald will have to eat the whole treat. You can try fried fruit or yougart. Usually they like things higher in sugar. Just make sure you are using a small amount and not over doing it with treats.
