My Persian cat is shedding a lot, but seems healthy. What's wrong?

Shedding is normal for nearly all cat breeds including Himalayans, and the amount of hair lost can be seasonal. Excessive shedding to the point where the cost is thin or there is hair loss would not be normal. If Noushmc has areas of bare skin, other skin lesions, or if she seems itchy I’d recommend having a vet examine her.

Hair loss can be a sign of external parasites like fleas or mites, allergies to food, or seasonal allergies. In some rare circumstances cats seem to over groom themselves due to anxiety. It sounds like Tota may have a seasonal allergy to something in the environment since her symptoms seem to come and go. With this breed and the signs I would be worried about ringworm. Persian cats and other long-haired breeds are prone to this type of fungal infection and in fact the mother may have it and be what's called an asymptomatic carrier. I recommend practicing strict hygiene protocols with handling the kittens and discussing with your veterinarian if they feel they should be testing for ringworm. I agree with your veterinarian that this is unlikely to be a side effect of the medication previously given.

Hi, the shedding I this breed is quite pronounced just because of the hair and the hair cycle itself. It is a natural process so it can not be stopped as such, you can help him shedding by daily grooming his fur or rubbing him gently with a wet towel. You should get him used to get groomed by keeping it a positive experience associated with treats and not using force to restrain him. Start with short periods of time, even seconds and always aim to finish in a positive way, I.w with a treat and not by her wriggling away and escaping.
