My 8-year-old cat is losing fur. What causes this and what to do?

In order to know the treatment for it, the cause has to be diagnosed. It could be caused by fleas, mites, allergies, or ringworm. You need to have Pebble seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated.

This could be a skin infection caused by a fungus (ringworm), or bacteria or an old injury. Since ringworm is contagious to people and other pets in the house, I suggest you have this examined by your veterinarian to rule out a fungal infection. Your vet will want to take a brush sample from the spot and culture it and until the culture has grown, will probably give you some medication to treat it.

If he seems to be losing weight, I would make sure her thyroid level was tested. If so, the skin could be due to an allergy or other skin condition. Thyroid level being high can cause skin and hair changes so I would first get this level checked out.
