What causes an older cat to meow silently or lose their voice?

My 17 year old male cat has no sound when he trys to meow.

Poor Bullwinkle! I would recommend taking Bullwinkle to the vet for a good exam. Sometimes loss of voice is associated with hyperthyroidism but also irritation of the throat and mouth. It is important an older can has a good exam and possible blood work to help determine the cause. Hope Bullwinkle is feeling better soon
