My new adopted cat growls and hisses at us. What should we do?

Give them some time. A day is very soon for them to take to one another. She smells all the places he has been and it can be over whelming and scary for her. Once those smells go away and she realizes he is not going anywhere, they will learn to live together. Make sure they do nit have to share food and water or this can lead to competition and more jealousy

The first thing I would do would be to rule out a medical condition. Conditions such as hyperthyroidism and urinary tract infections can sometimes manifest as aggression. If your veterinarians determines that everything is normal, I would recommend a product called Feliway which can be used to calm cats. It can be purchased over the counter at any pet store or online.

If only Taro could talk! With an unknown background, it's hard to know but it could be related to abuse, rough play or not socializing properly. Give him time to adjust. Keep his environmental calm and happy. Make sure to keep your movements calm and slow until he bonds and becomes comfortable. A few other therapies could also help. This is not uncommon with kittens that are not socialized well at a young age. The hissing is more of a reflex than anything and will decrease with time. The best thing to do is spend as much time with him as possible and try to handle him as much as possible. He may act like he doesn't like it at first, but he will get better with time. In most cases they stop hissing and become more normal within two weeks. Congratulations on your new kitten! Sometimes it takes a while to gain their trust. Try to get him to play as this will help him to bond with you. Make sure to put the toys away after the play session so that they remain fresh in his mind and always associated with you. Sit quietly near him at mealtime and gradually work up to petting him or hand feeding him. Feliway does help and I recommend to use this product but it will not alter his behavior on its own. Make sure to provide an area for climbing such as a tall cat tree or shelves as this will help to satisfy his natural instinct and decrease stress. Congrats on your new cat! Yes, I do think that he has the possibility to be happy around the dogs but it will take time. Moving into a new home is stressful for a cat, and getting used to the current occupants is also stressful especially if he hasn't been around dogs before. It's normal behavior to arch and hiss when the dogs come near to Simba, and as long as he isn't reacting aggressively (trying to hit or bite them), then do not discourage this behavior. He is letting them know his boundaries and what he is comfortable with in regards to them. Give him time to adjust and his relationship with the dogs should improve over time :-)

It is wonderful you adopted a new cat. New environments can be very scary for certain cats. I would recommend making sure that MIllie has easy access to a litter box and food. I also would make sure she has a safe place to high and get up to a high place (like cat tree). It also can take type for her to adapt to her new space and feel more comfortable. She is still very young so I would just recommend moving slowly with her. I hope that helps
