My adopted cat growls and stays away. How can I get her to like me?

That actually sounds like very normal behavior for a cat who is adjusting to a major change. It sounds like Arlo is working on getting comfortable in his new environment but isn't so sure about the humans there yet. I would recommend giving him lots of space, not taking the growling personally, and giving him time (probably a week or two, maybe even months) to warm up. Let him be the one who chooses to interact with you, not the other way around. you can definitely use food and offerings of toys to try to entice him to come interact with you, but it should still be his choice. Give them some time. A day is very soon for them to take to one another. She smells all the places he has been and it can be over whelming and scary for her. Once those smells go away and she realizes he is not going anywhere, they will learn to live together. Make sure they do nit have to share food and water or this can lead to competition and more jealousy

A cat who was basically feral for 5 months may take quite some time to become more comfortable with handling, and she may never be a cuddly lap cat. It does sound like she is willing to have some interaction with you, so I would continue what you are doing in terms of offering her nice tasty treats when she comes to you. Also feeding her near you if she will eat with you nearby but not touching her (don't want to overwhelm her at first, just get her more used to your presence being nonthreatening). I wouldn't pick her up if it scares her just yet, and I wouldn't force her to meet/be touched or held by new people just yet. I would give her a few more months of settling in. You may also add feline pheremone diffusers (Feliway is my favorite brand) to the house and try calming supplements such as Composure or Zylkene to see if these help relieve some of her anxiety as well. If only Taro could talk! With an unknown background, it's hard to know but it could be related to abuse, rough play or not socializing properly. Give him time to adjust. Unfortunately, kittens that were bottle fed can be aggressive and not as friendly. You can try to put some feliway diffusers in the House and spray her sleeping areas. Feliway is a cat pheromone which can sometimes help to calm them. Also, give her more time. She has been moved from multiple house in her short life and now around new cats (they don’t usually remember family). This can be stressful and can take weeks for them to acclimate to. Some cats are simply more affectionate than others. I recommend not forcing any contact, as this can have a negative effect, but continue to offer toys and treats and try to play and interact. Over time Leo may become more affectionate, but he may not.
