My male cat was neutered, but why is he still peeing everywhere?

Well, it can take about 60 days for the hormones to leave his system after neutering, so some may still be hormonal. However, cat’s will often have inappropriate urination if they are stressed about other things or if they are painful or otherwise upset. I see Storm isn't neutered. Male intact cats often mark their territory with their urine, and that may be what he is doing. It could also be he has feline idiopathic cystitis or bladder stones. I'd have him seen by a vet to get checked out for those two medical illness and to discuss having him neutered.

It certainly might. Urine marking is a normal and expected behavior for intact males, so neutering is one of the first things we recommend if your cat is doing this. The earlier it's done, the better - this is because the longer this behavior continues, the more it will become a habit that may not resolve after the neuter. It's important to realize that urine marking can also be related to stress or anxiety, so if this is the case, these issues would also need to be addressed in order to resolve the behavior.

Sometimes, cats will return to the same location where they have had an accident previously and continue to urinate there - this is often because there is still some lingering odor that they can smell, which acts as a signpost saying "pee here!" He may also have learned that the bed was a pleasant place to use the bathroom, so in his mind it's a convenient option when he needs to go. I would recommend closing the door to your bedroom to block his access to the bed for the next month or so - this should be long enough to break the newly-formed habit of urinating on the bed. You should also make sure that all of the bedding has been washed, and the mattress has been treated with a deodorizing product that is made for getting rid of urine odors, such as Nature's Miracle or Urine Off. If he continues to have accidents in other places around the house even with the bedroom door closed, I would be suspicious of an underlying medical issue causing this behavior. In that case, it would be best to take him to the vet for an exam and urinalysis to help determine what's wrong.

This is probably behavioral spraying. I suggest you refer to this link for more information. He is probably still suffering from an infection/inflammation and he probably received muscle relaxant medications which causes loss of control on the bladder. once the medication course is over and he is healed it will stop, but until then it's actually a good thing that he is peeing everywhere, it means he is not blocked anymore.

Great question! It depends on why Sammy is urinating outside of the box. If it is for behavioral reasons, like marking, yes neutering him could help. If it is for behavioral reasons like stress, no. If he has a urinary tract infection, then neutering won't help. I recommend having a vet examine him first and rule out an infection. If that is normal, I would recommend neutering him for marking reasons. Lastly, I would recommend cleaning the urine with an odor neutralizer because even if you can't smell it, Sammy still can.
