My cat marks everywhere. Is NaturVet No Mark safe for cats and humans?

It is best to rule out medical causes first (bladder stones, crystals in the urine, urinary tract infection) before assuming it is behavioral. I would confine the cats in a room for 1-2 weeks where they can not see the outdoor cats. Use a Feliway diffuser in the room and set one up where they were marking. Get blinds or keep the blinds down so they can not see the cats. You can try to talk to your neighbor but I doubt they will keep them inside. Cleaned the soiled areas with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle and Anti-Ichy Poo. Then let the cats back out. If they continue to mark then I would ask your Vet for Prozac. Personally, I've never found any benefit in using indoor electric fences to manage urine marking. Be sure that the cleaners that you've used to clean up previous urine spots are enzymatic cleaners (Nature's Miracle is one example). Urine marking/spraying typically occurs on vertical surfaces (such as walls or the sides of furniture), where as inappropriate urination occurs more on horizontal surfaces (the floor, beds, etc.). It is important to differentiate between the two since they are typically caused by different things. Urine marking/spraying occurs most commonly in intact male cats, or those neutered later in life, as a result of behavioral changes from hormonal influences. Inappropriate urination on horizontal surfaces can occur due to behavioral changes (typically stress-based) or medical problems (urinary tract infection, bladder stones, crystals in the urine, etc.). If your cat is an intact male, I recommend having him neutered. It is also a good idea to have a urine sample evaluated for signs of infection or crystals to rule out some medical problems that could be leading to this issue. Otherwise, add at least 1 extra litter box to your house, scoop the litter box 1-2 times per day, change the litter at least weekly, consider adding or removing a hood/cover to the box (depending upon the current set up), and use calming pheromone collars/diffusers (Feliway is one example). Thanks for the info about the litter boxes. Yes, it does matter! The rule is to have one litter box for each cat, plus one extra. So ideally, you should have 11 litter boxes. Anyway, as for a product, I recommend Skout's Honor. I use it when my cats have accidents, and it's amazing. I hope this helps!

This can happen from stress, and also because Onyx isn't neutered, he may be doing this to show the home is his territory. I'd definitely have him neutered, and use a Feliway diffuser in the home to see if that helps settle him. Cleaning up the marking areas is tough, but I recommend using Skout's Honor cleaning products to get rid of the smell. I've found them to be effective. You can get them online or at a pet store. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult if not impossible to train a male cat to ignore the natural instincts, such as urine marking, which make them difficult to keep indoor. Male cat urine has an extremely strong odor, and is quite unpleasant, and it's their natural tendency to "mark" areas that they consider to be theirs, which in your case will likely be all around the inside of your house. He will also be very interested in leaving your house to roam in search of females, and to fight other males that he considers to be a threat. Clearly, these are dangerous behaviors. While you may be concerned about the safety of neutering, since it requires general anesthesia, I can tell you that it is a well-understood procedure that is nearly painless, and takes no more than 5 minutes if performed by a trained veterinarian. Once DoReMi is neutered, he will no longer have the "urges" that drive the behaviors listed above, and will be quite content. I strongly advise you to have him neutered, and soon, as he's getting very close to starting to become sexually mature.

As long as you don't spray it on the cats and you don't spray it while the cats are in the room it should be OK. Cats are EXTREMELY sensitive to essential oils and they can be toxic to them so be very careful. Likely this will work to deter them however, they may just pick another spot to pee on instead...... Hello. In general, the use of essential oils is contraindicated for indoor pets. If you keep the windows open for plenty of fresh air it kind of defeats the purpose of the lavender. A better option is to use a cat appeasing pheromone. I like Feliway as you plug it into an outlet in as many rooms as Shadow occupies, & it emits a undetectable scent that has calming properties to cats. I would also start him on a calming supplement like Zylkene made by Vetoquinol. Lastly, make sure Shadow is not having actual physical problems in the litter box. You do not say if his issues are with defecation or urination, but some male cats can develop a form of cystitis that if not addressed quickly can result in a urinary blockage, a life threatening condition. If he is defecating outside the box, adding another box in another location, using a product called Cat Attract in the box, & the Feliway often helps.
