Is it normal for a new mother cat not to lick her kitten?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 1 month old

my queen gave birth two nights ago to one kitten.. everything is fine, she stays with him and she lets him drink her milk, but I don’t notice that she licks him. Is it possible that she licks him while I’m not around? or she is neglecting to lick him and I need to interfere.. I’m confused

I'm sure she is licking him when you are not around. I have never heard of a cat not licking her babies. I guess it is possible but that would be very odd. If you are concerned you can try to set up a camera to record her when you are not in the room. That way you can be sure.
