My skinny male kitten yowls at night. Is he sick or just unneutered?

You have an unneutered male cat. I’m sure he wants to go out and find females to mate with. He could have feline leukemia or feline aids from previous fights causing him to be thin. I recommend getting him tested for leukemia and aids and having him neutered. I would also recommend deworming him since intestinal parasites can also cause animals to be very thin. If Jax goes outside, he may be hunting or even getting food from a neighbor, so he may no longer need much food from you. Yowling is a normal behavior in strong-willed cats. It is their way of telling you they want something, and some cats are very vocal about it! The vomiting could be a one-time thing, or it could be caused by hairballs, food allergy, eating too fast, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, IBD, among others. If you can stand the howling, I would recommend continuing to keep Jax inside for monitoring. If his appetite does not return, if he continues to vomit, or if he develops diarrhea, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian.

Poor Canelo. I am sorry that it has been difficult to get him to gain weight. With him being young and petite and intact then I would not be too concerned. Of course, without doing an exam I cannot say this for sure. If he is really skinny and all of his bones are showing then yes, I would be more concerned. If his bones are not showing and you cannot see his ribs then I would be less concerned. Some cats are more petit and slender especially if they are very active and outdoors. I would also recommend to have him neutered as that may also help him gain weight. Finally, if he is really skinny and you are able to see his bones, I would recommend to ensure your vet tested his thyroid (high thyroid isn't common is young cats but possible). Then I would recommend to increase the amount of food you are feeding and if he is still not gaining weigh then the next step would be abdominal x-rays or ultrasound. I hope this helps some. I am sorry to hear that Gary is not feeling well. While being intact can make them have behavioral changes and actively seek out a mate, this shouldn't cause him to not eat or lose weight. I would definitely recommend taking him to veterinarian for an examination. It is possible that he is painful somewhere or has problems with his urinary tract that makes him painful and causes him to urinate where he shouldn't. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would deworm him. Intestinal parasites are almost always present in young animals as they are passed from the milk. He could be getting more lean but this could also be an early warning sign that something is going on. I would collect a stool sample and have him seen for his first vet visit. The Vet can do an exam, test his stool, feline leukemia and FIV test him and consider giving his first vaccination. I wish you and Noah the very best!

If there are intact female cats outside as well he is likely sensing them. I would consider neutering him to reduce the kitten population. If he is eating, drinking and otherwise fine then that is most likely the cause. Have a good day!

Your cat might have something going on with his mouth or teeth, or may have a urinary tract disease or some other metabolic issue. If he is losing weight, you should have blood work and a urine test done to make sure he doesn't have an infection or other issue causing him to stop eating as well as he was. Otherwise, the increase in wanting attention is not necessarily a bad thing or a sign of illness.
