My 2-month-old kitten is sick: vomiting, not eating. Are fleas to blame?

Hello. You should take the kitten in to be evaluated as soon as possible. Fleas do carry diseases that can infect cats & kittens, & if there are enough fleas, can actually cause anemia. If the kitten has not been wormed, then the presence of intestinal parasites such as roundworms can weaken a kitten further. The fleas and constant itching can be contributing to the vomiting. I would use a flea comb dipped in soapy water to comb the fleas off her several times a day. This will catch the fleas on her and kill them in the soapy water. You will also remove the lose fur which may be causing her to have hairballs which she is trying to vomit up. Please do get a flea prevention product as soon as you can. When she's treated for the intestinal parasites and fleas she should feel better. She could have a parasite, infection, or an upset stomach from something she ate. The fact that she is weak is concerning and she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can test a stool sample for parasites and then prescribe medications. She might also need fluids to prevent dehydration.

That is not normal behavior from a young kitten. Yes it sounds like she has a fever and stomach upset. Since she’s so small and sick she should have veterinary treatment soon so she doesn’t get worse. Healthy kittens are very playful and don’t vomit or sleep that much. Please take her in for treatment. They will give medication to resolve the vomiting and reduce her fever if she has one. Poor Maggie. There are several things that can cause vomiting and lethargy including hairballs, parasites, upper respiratory infection, eating human food, foreign bodies +/- Gi obstruction, certain viral and bacterial infections and much more. I would stop feeding her milk as most cats eventually get to where they cannot tolerate it. I would try to keep her inside so she can rest and offer her different types of food to try and entice her to eat. If she is still refusing to eat tomorrow or the vomiting is continuing, I would have your vet take a look at her. Your vet will be able to do a fecal, blood work and even x-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to get her the proper meds to help her feel better. I hope this helps!

If she is vomiting so frequently, she may have an issue with her stomach or intestines. This could be something as simple as a dietary intolerance, or could be as scary as cancer. I recommend contacting your veterinarian and making an appointment for her to be seen. I hope this is helpful.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cutee! From your pictures and description Cutee is very sick. I don't understand why you think the Vets in your area do not care about animals. I would ask your neighbors and friends who they like for their pets Vet care and use that hospital. Sadly Cutee needs to see a Veterinarian. Without examining Cutee and establishing a Veterinary Client Patient Relationship it is against the law for us to diagnose and prescribe medications. Cutee needs an exam, fecal test for worms, a belly X-rays, blood work and likely hospitalization to pull her through this. All you can do at home is keep her safe and warm. You can try kitten milk replacer and bottle feed her. Though if she is over 3-4 weeks old kitten food is fine. She is going to become dehydrated, if she isn't already, if she isn't eating or holding anything down. I am very sorry but what Cutee needs to be seen and examine by a Vet to obtain a diagnosis and receive treatment. I wish you both the best!
