Why is my adopted kitten's URI worse with labored breathing?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 13 days old

I adopted my kitten about a week ago from the shelter. I met her about two weeks ago and she then had an uri for sure- about 10 days ago they disgnosed her with a uri and gave her antibiotics- i have the humidifer going in my home and an air purifier...she seemed to be getting better. Now she is depressed. Sneezing snot all over. Her breathing is very labored. And she rarely purrs. She will eat, but not play much. She is tired and lethargic. Her sneezing fits are better with the humidity.

Bat needs to see a veterinarian. She may have pneumonia or she may just still have just a bad upper respiratory infection but may need a different antibiotic. Especially with her labored breathing, she needs to see a vet as soon as possible. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
