Can I start training my 4-month-old kitten to do tricks now?

It takes a lot to train a cat and it is not possible at the age your kitten is. Kitties at this age need to learn to run, play, hunt, fight, climb, clean themselves, etc. They really do not have the mind to learn dog tricks. You will need to wait at least 6 months or even a year before you can start with teaching your cat such commands as sit. Not every cat will be interested in learning this, so she may never be cooperative in that respect. Teaching this command will take a lot of patience, immediate reward with a treat. The cat will need to make the connection between the command and the act. And then the cat will need to want to obey the command. Cats are very independent personalities, so, while your kitty will love you, it is more likely to train you than be trained by you.

She is able to start learning immediately - the most important skills are sit, wait, come and 'leave it'/drop. With these you can attract her attention and focus and ask her to put down anything undesirable she may pick up whilst out walking. Be sure to use positive reinforcement and encouragement throughout training and do not attempt to punish her if she is confused

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Now is a perfect time! Digging and using a litter box is natural to them. Make sure it isn't deep or too high for them to jump in and out of. You can put a little used litter in there (smell of urine and poop) to encourage them to use it. Kittens are very quick to learn. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 5 weeks is a bit young. You can practice her name now but anything else will be frustrating for you. Most dogs are still with their mothers at 5 weeks. I would start with the leash at 8 weeks and training at 10-12 weeks. Good luck!

Doing so will help to decrease the potential development for destructive or inappropriate behaviors, such as inappropriate scratching, aggressiveness, inappropriate litterbox habits. This can be accomplished through play with you and various types of toys, or through self-play with a cat tower, scratching post, food puzzles, etc. There is a great informational website for cat owners provided by The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine called The Indoor Pet Initiative (for Cats). I recommend that you visit this website as there as a wealth of information available.

Oh wow what a cutie!!! Absolutely you can give her treats. I like the blue buffalo treats but really there are a lot of good ones at any pet store. You just want to use treats that are small and generally low in calories. Good luck!
