My kitten has tan stools for weeks and now is vomiting. What's wrong?

MY kitten has been having tan stools for a few weeks now but has had perfect behavior. has been vaccinated and has tested negative for anything. My other cats. Have been perfectly healthy. Perfect stool and behavior as well. who have also had perfect behavior. But yet today the kitten i am asking about has now puked up all the food he has eating all over the floor, but has had perfect behavior other then his stools. what could be the cause? i have basically quarantined him in a bedroom.

Hi there. He could have eaten something that irritated his GI tract, or it is possible he has an intestinal parasite. Fecal tests are only about 80% accurate, so even if he has tested negative I would recommend having another sample tested. If he won’t eat or continues to vomit tomorrow then he should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Kittens can become dehydrated very quickly. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

I would take Tanani to the vet as soon as possible. Blood in vomit is never normal. Possible causes of vomiting include GI foreign body or blockage, ingestion of a toxin, bleeding or clotting disorder, bacterial or viral infection, intestinal parasites, etc. After examination and a discussion of her medical history, a vet may recommend bloodwork, viral testing, intestinal parasite screening, or x-rays to try to determine the cause of the bloody vomit.

Hi Janet. I would be very concerned she could have a post-partum complication such as an infection causing her symptoms. I'm also concerned that the red color of her vomit could be due to blood. She needs to see a vet immediately. Please take her and her kittens into a vet now. Best of luck.

She is cute! She could have an infection or a parasite. You could take a stool sample to your vet and have it tested for parasites. If she hasn't been dewormed then an intestinal parasite is a definite possibility and your vet can prescribe a dewormer. She might also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. You could also add a probiotic to her food and see if that helps. Hope she gets better soon!

Why is my cat's poop loose and light-colored for over a week?

Sometimes even a simple diet switch from one food to another is enough to cause intestinal inflammation or bacterial imbalance and diarrhea in cats. Though his risk is low, it's also possible he could have an intestinal parasite (cannot be ruled out without a fecal test). You can try adding one tbsp of canned pumpkin to his diet for fiber. If he does not improve soon, it would be best to take him to a vet. Sometimes a short course of medication is necessary to resolve this type of diarrhea.

Why is my kitten vomiting yellow and not eating after dewormer?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your kitten. If he is not improving, then I recommend that he has a further work up. He should have fecal testing, blood work and x-rays of his abdomen to determine the cause of his vomiting and inappetance. Kittens can react to deworming medication, but it is typically a short lived reaction. It worries me that he is still ill. There is likely another another disease process present. In the meantime, encourage him to drink so that he does not become dehydrated. I hope this information helps!

My new kitten has loose orange stool. Is it diet or parasites?

Poor Venus! The most common cause of loose yellow or orange-colored stool in a kitten this age would be intestinal parasites. I would recommend first having her examined by a vet - he/she can take a fecal sample and check it under a microscope for parasites such as hookworms, roundworms, or coccidia. If any problems are found, they can also prescribe appropriate medication to treat the issue. In the meantime, you can try feeding her a bland diet of plain boiled chicken or chicken-flavored baby food to help settle her stomach until you are able to get her in to see the vet.

Why is my 5-month kitten's loose stool bloody after diet changes?

Hi there. I am suspicious that Taro may have a gastrointestinal parasite. Even if he has had a negative fecal exam I would still repeat another one. Fecal examinations are about 80% accurate as the body is not always shedding parasites eggs. If the next fecal is negative then I would request a GI fecal PCR panel. Is my kitten's black poop, bloated belly, and leaking stool serious?

This could definitely be because of the change of food but the black color concerns me that there may be digested blood present. Since she is so young and tiny, I would consider this urgent so I would try to get her into the vet soon. I would that she may become dehydrated or sicker if it isn't addressed. Your vet will likely want to run a fecal on her to check for any intestinal parasites. They may also want to know the food you are feeding her. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon.
