Why is my kitten's pee smelly and yellow after new food or deworming?

The longer he holds his urine the darker in color and stronger odor it can have. Also if he dehydrated it has potential to make the urine a little darker. Since he has issues with a litter box, I would have his urine checked for a UTI or crystals to see if that is complicating the situation and causing some of these problems. You can also add canned food to make sure he is getting plenty of fluids

It could be potentially related to diet, but, considering the persistence of the signs,these episodes may be related to parasite infestation or a bacterial infection. I would suggest a check up at your local veterinarian, a fecal sample may be helpful for your vet. If already treated for worms, antibiotics may be needed.

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes it may be normal for a kittens urine to have a stronger odor especially if the urine is very concentrated. You may want to try feeding an all canned diet with water mixed in to help reduce the urine concentration. However, sometimes a UTI can cause a change in urine odor. As long as Beasty is using the litter box normally and not having urinary accidents or going urinating small amounts frequently, I would be less concerned about a UTI. However, if changes in her urination habits occur (like straining to urinate, frequent urination, crying while urinating) or if she stops eating or drinking or becomes lethargic it would be a good idea to schedule a vet visit. Also, if the urine odor persists you may want to bring a sample to your veterinarian to have it evaluated. I hope this is helpful!

Usually, kittens over three weeks old no longer require physical stimulation to urinate and defecate. However, there is some variation in this number and it is possible that Milo is on the late end of that variation. I would try and stimulate the anogenital region to see if this can create a bowel movement. This very well may be the cause of the bloated appearance you are seeing currently. As for the urine, in my experience, cat urine never smells too great. However, a rotten egg scent could be an indication of some type of urinary tract infection or unbalanced pH of the urine. It might be worthwhile having Milo checked out by the vet. If you can, I would bring in a urine sample too to have it analyzed for any problems include bacteria or white blood cells. I have not heard of diet causing that kind of scent in the urine in cats, but I suppose it is possible. A three week old cat should not be eating much of anything other than KMR or the very beginnings of cat food in gruel form.

Poor Willow! This diarrhea could be caused by GI illness, Giardia infection, Coccidia infection, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or intestinal parasites. The yellow color indicates it's traveling very quickly through the GI tract. I would take her into the vet with a sample of her feces for an exam. The vet can examine her feces, do a physical exam, routine blood tests, and a urinalysis to diagnose what is causing her diarrhea, and can treat accordingly.

He should have fecal testing, blood work and x-rays of his abdomen to determine the cause of his vomiting and inappetance. Kittens can react to deworming medication, but it is typically a short lived reaction. It worries me that he is still ill. There is likely another another disease process present. In the meantime, encourage him to drink so that he does not become dehydrated. I hope this information helps!

She is cute! She could have an infection or a parasite. You could take a stool sample to your vet and have it tested for parasites. If she hasn't been dewormed then an intestinal parasite is a definite possibility and your vet can prescribe a dewormer. She might also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. You could also add a probiotic to her food and see if that helps. Hope she gets better soon!
