What's this raw, blister-like spot on my 2-week-old kitten's paw?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 12 days old | 0 lbs

I rescued a mom cat from outside and she had her babies in the room I set up for her. She is doing great, however on one of her babies (2 weeks old) it has a spot on its foot that kinda looks like a popped blister. No blood or puss just raw skin like a burn. Is this common, or should I have reason for concern?

The picture is not very clear, but I see some crustiness and possibly some hair loss. I worry about ringworm (a skin fungus) with that type of lesion, because this is also a very common location for ringworm in kittens.

It could also be some other infection or due to a scratch or bite. It is not normal though and to determine the cause, you would have to bring her into the vet for an exam. They can take a sample (if needed) and look at it under the microscope to find out what it is.

For now, it's best to consider it contagious, because ringworm can be transmitted from cats to people. This is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own), but may need treatment if you start to see more lesions. You can wash it once a day with medicated shampoo labeled for cats (can be found at the pet store). This will help if it is an infection.

The area looks red and swollen and I'm concerned the area may be infected. It could there is a foreign body in there causing the infection, Mochi may have injured herself, or it could be a growth but not too likely in a kitten her age. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. You need to have her seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. I'd see if you can take her into a vet this weekend, or Monday. What is this spot on my 10-week-old kitten's tummy? Is it serious?

It looks like this could be ringworm or some type of yeast or bacterial infection. Even if it is not bothering her, I would recommend that you take her to the veterinarian to test the spot, especially since ringworm can infect humans. The veterinarian will most likely recommend a skin scraping to look for infection and parasites, as well as a culture for ringworm. This way they will be able to treat it appropriately.

A lesion like that could be a bacterial infection or ringworm (which humans can get). Your best option is to have Mocha examined and tested for ringworm. Make sure to protect the area from rubbing and scratching and she should wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Hello! Thank you for using PetCoach! Cute kitten! It is very difficult to say what something is just by looking at a photo. Many skin diseases will often look similar in presentation. I can tell you that my first suspicion is ringworm. Ringworm is by far and away the number one skin disease of kittens. I suggest you get Aniko to your vet for an exam and some testing. Why does my 5-week-old kitten have bloody sores on ears and neck?

Poor kittens! These lesions could be a result of injuries from playing and subsequent infection/abscess formation, ringworm, or mange. If you feel adventurous, you can carefully try to use clippers to clip the fur around these lesions on both kittens and then clean the areas with an antiseptic solution, such as dilute chlorhexidine or dilute betadine. However, both kittens will likely need to go to the vet for further evaluation to determine if diagnostic testing and/or oral antibiotics are necessary. If the kittens are scratching at themselves, be sure that they are wearing e-collars (cones) to prevent further skin damage. I hope that all goes well!

What are these dark spots on my kitten's face? Could it be ringworm?

Poor Mabel. This could be several different things like ringworm, a bacterial infection, a viral infection, mange, an immune reaction and more. I would have your vet take a look at her to see what it may be. They will be able to get her started on the proper meds to help it heal. They may also recommend to have her tested for feline leukemia and feline aids. If she is positive for one of these things, it is good to know. These are not something that she needs to be euthanized for but it is a good thing to know so you know to keep her indoors and away from other cats if possible. It also means her immune system may not be as strong as a normal cats so she may needed to be treated differently or with something stronger. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon!
