How long until kittens open their eyes and how to tell their gender?

These are about three weeks old, and they look cute and healthy. If they are eating kitten canned or moistened dry food that age is about right. Younger kittens still only drink milk. If you are feeding them milk please use kitten milk replacer as it is made for kittens and they will not have diarrhea or an upset stomach with it. They should be fed four to six times a day. I'd offer them solid foods as soon as possible so feeding them is easier. I start with the milk replacer and mix it with some kitten canned and see if they will lick it off your finger. Once they get eating it you can teach them to lick it off a flat plate. Use a damp cloth to wipe around under their tails to stimulate them to pee and poop. I start having a litter pan around 3-4 weeks old. Please bring them to the veterinarian at six weeks to start deworming and vaccinations. I agree that by 2 weeks of age the kittens eyes should be open and there would be concern for abnormal development or an infection causing adhesions. You may want to see if your vet feels comfortable applying a warm compress and then gently trying to ease the eyelids apart - this might help with adhesions. Otherwise anesthesia and using an instrument to separate the lids (surgery to cut the lid is not recommended) may be necessary since the eyes need to be open for appropriate development of the eye and neurologic pathway to the brain.

Spend time handling them each day. This will help to get them use to humans. Also look into resources to get the mother spayed. One female cat can have up to 27 kittens in a year...that's a lot of kittens! have the mother spayed when the kittens are 12 weeks old. Usually the teeth help us decide how old a kitten is but I'd estimate them to be ~5 weeks old. If they have teeth you can offer wet kitten food (free choice/out all the time) and water for now until you see your veterinarian Thursday At this time keep their eyes clean by wiping away any discharge with a warm moist washcloth until your veterinarian can take a close look at them.

Kittens will naturally open their eyes at around 7-10 days of age. If your kitten has an eye that is still shut, or appears to be blocked by debris or discharge, it is best to schedule a veterinary appointment as this may indicate a congenital issue or infection causing the problem.

The opening of kittens eyes is not triggered by light and i would not expect it to speed the process. Very rarely surgical opening is required. If there is no swelling behind the eye, warm compresses for 2-3miinutes may help but be very gentle not to put any pressure on the developing eye structures
