My kitten has a neck lump after injury and is lethargic. What's wrong?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kitty. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. He needs to be examined and the extent of his injuries determined. His eye will need to evaluated. It appears as though his third eyelid may be elevated and possibly damaged. The veterinarian will determine if medication such as antibiotics are warranted. If there is eye disease, such as a corneal ulcer or scratch across the eye, this will require specific treatment. Surgery is possible if there is an infection under the skin such as an abscess. If he is not as active, this is likely because he does not feel well. In the meantime, encourage him to eat and drink. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to cats. Poor baby. It sounds to me like he needs additional medical attention. His pain control may not be adequate for his injuries, or he could be developing an infection. I would recommend taking him to an emergency vet clinic tonight to be assessed and his treatment adjusted.

An infection is definitely possible with what you are describing. I also worry about lymphoma or other cancers with this sort of history, but they are not as common in younger cats. I would be more suspicious about an infection. Considering Hammy seems to be quite afflicted and there is potential for this to be something serious like FeLV, or plague, it's best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. A huge lump on his neck could be an abscess, a blicked salivary duct, inflamed or infected salivary gland, a cyst, a tumor, or a swollen lymph node. This needs to be examined by your veterinarian who will likely want to take a bit of tissue or check if and what kind of fluid is in the lump. He will do this with a very thin needle (painless) to determine what kind of mass or lump there is. Not eating is dangerous for a cat as this can cause liver disease in cats in addition to the original cause. Please take your kitty to a veterinarian for an exam today.

I am so sorry that your pet is not doing well. The swelling is likely due to infection (bacterial or viral) or an inflammatory response to some kind of allergy. There are lymph nodes on the neck near the jawline. I would definitely get Runiyah seen by your vet to have this swelling looked at and also to get her temperature to make sure she is not running a fever. I"m sorry Cat isn't doing well! I would take him back into a vet today for blood tests and a urinalysis. These tests will check his organ functioning to see what could be causing his symptoms. It is concerning that he isn't improving, and he does need a recheck today. As for the hard lumps, these could be hives from an allergic reaction, but without seeing him in persons, I can't say for certain. It would be a good idea to have these checked out by a vet as well.
