My kitten is lethargic, not eating. Could he have swallowed a toy?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 9 lbs

My approximately 6 month old kitten has not been eating as much as usual, extremely lethargic, appears to be uncomfortable, looks kinda wet on his belly, and he hasn’t gone to the bathroom I don’t think at all yesterday or today. I’m worried but I think he might have eaten a small toy or something that might have cause an obstruction. What do you think? Can I wait to take him on Wednesday? Should I try earlier? I’m scared. Is there anything I can do to help him feel better now?

What you are describing does fit with an intestinal obstruction. The only other thing that we also commonly see is vomiting.

The most concerning thing is that you report that he is acting extremely lethargic. Cats are very good at hiding their pain, so when they get this depressed, it indicates a severe problem. If you also think that he may have eaten a small toy, then I would recommend taking him to the vet as soon as possible.

It would be less concerning if he was still active and eating, but a bowel obstruction can cause severe pain and quickly lead to life-threatening complications.

My kitten ate string and is now lethargic. Does she need a vet?

I would be concerned that Izzy could still have part of the string in her intestines or as the string was passing through her intestines it could have caused holes to form and now she has peritonitis. Izzy needs to get checked out by a veterinarian to make sure that she doesn't have peritonitis. If so she may require surgery to get better.

My 4-month-old kitten is suddenly lethargic and won't eat. Help!

It sounds like he is getting sick. Without additional clinical signs it is hard to say exactly what is causing his lethargy and decreased appetite but he could be starting with a respiratory virus or a gastrointestinal virus. He could also have parasites that need to be treated. If it continues than he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can run lab work to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. If he is unvaccinated, please discuss a vaccine plan with your vet once he has recovered from this illness.

Cat ate string, now lethargic & not eating. Is it an emergency?

Oh naughty Loki for eating string! If he is more lethargic than usual and isn't eating, I would take him into the vet right away. It is possible there is still more string instead his intestines, and he should be examined by a vet now. If there is still string in his GI tract, then he will need surgery to remove it.
